Santuri Safari Tanzania

In February 2015, Mim Suleiman returned to her native Tanzania to play at Sauti za Busara – one of the regions most prestigious festivals. Mim, who has released two albums of “Tanzanian dub disco’ with underground legend Maurice Fulton, has been an inspiration to the Santuri crew for some time, so the chance to help her put a band together was jumped upon.

Santuri, having worked with various DJs, producers and musicians around the region in the last year, brought in Esa Williams, to renew his partnership with Dar’s local legend Ambrose Akula Akwabi – developing a band that fused Mim’s electronic style with a more traditional, ‘Busara friendly’ band set up. This video charts the results, from the rehearsals at Music Mayday / MUDA, to the preview gig at Triniti Bar in Dar es Salaam (Mim’s first performance in mainland Tanzania) to her triumphant appearance on the main stage in Zanzibar.

Much love to Mim, Esa, Ambrose, Barikeyz, Leonard, Emmanuel, Tito, Chief Twaba, Topsy, Sam Jones, Tendwa, MUDA, the whole Triniti crew, and the Santuri family who supported.

All music in the video is belongs to Mim Suleiman, apart from “Mganga Mkuu” by Makadem.
